What inspired you: This video was captured during my trip to Nepal over the late December weeks of 2010. It was a journey to work on a clean water and greenhouse project in the small village of Saripakha, Nepal. Partnering with International Development Enterprises (ideorg.org) and Montview Church, we fundraised to get to the village and help fix and build a clean water system and also build a greenhouse to allow the local villagers grow crops in the off season. This is particularly important, as many of the villagers struggle to feed families in the off-season.
What I learned: I learned a tremendous about about people, myself, and the global community. It was a long trip to get there, but we were welcomed and the local villagers were kind people. They worked along side us, even though we didn't know the same language. We found commonalities, such as music and food. It was the most rewarding trip I have been a part of so far. The Nepalese also don't have much, but still live happy lives. I learned that we in America have so much stuff and access to so much material items and most the people I know don't smile throughout the day with true happiness. However, the Nepalese were always smiling and content, even though they have very little. This piece of experience has impacted me greatly.
