What I learned: The Crawford High School garden is such an amazing opportunity for the unfortunately limited number of students who are able to participate in it. For some of the children from Africa doing the internship, it is an opportunity to stay connected with the life they left behind by planting the way they had with their families. And for all the students, it is a unique opportunity to learn independence, the amount of skill it truly takes to perform this sort of manual labor, and provides resources to plan for their futures. Although, the greatest thing about this program may be that these students all openly admit that even without what little compensation they do receive from the IRC, they would gladly volunteer their time in the garden free of charge. These kids are all great, really enjoy the friends they have made in the garden, and really love the work they do as well. They're so excited that we want to help them out with a donation of supplies and seeds to see what new and diverse plants they will be able to cultivate within the garden. So don't hesitate to click that donate button, and you can share in the happiness when we are able to follow through on our promise. Thanks!
