What inspired you: Shortly after I finished filming my five lucky pennies series, I realized that I wanted to do a sixth. . .only with my own money in the mix. Not that these acts are defined by money--hardly--but I felt it was important to demonstrate to myself my personal commitment beyond the "free" money I'd been supplied by TGO. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do. . .and then I met Vickie.
What I learned: I originally filmed this the way that I filmed my other TGOs, with the idea of remaining as unobtrusive as possible my main goal. Sure, it's a little boring when there aren't faces to look at, but it was more important to me to respect Vickie's privacy and, most of all, not make her feel that she owed me anything, not even her time. But as I kept bumping into her over the weeks and spoke with her more, I felt truly inspired by how profoundly this act seemed to have affected her as well as the ways in which she's been performing her own acts of micro-activism over the years. So I bit the bullet and decided to ask her if she'd be interested in chatting on film. I'm happy to say that she was thrilled to have the opportunity to do so. We'll be hooking up over the next couple of months, so stay tuned, she's a hell of a lot more interesting to listen to than me!
